Games The Last Of Us

E3 Games – Beyond, Assassin’s Creed 3, Halo 4, The Last Of Us and ZombiU

E3 is like Christmas for gamers. Developers and manufacturers head to Los Angeles to show off their newest games. Here are a few titles that caught my eye.

Beyond: Two Souls (Quadratic Dream for PS3)

Beyond: Two Souls is a psychological action thriller from the makers of the unique story driven Heavy Rain. Ellen Page (the pregnant one in Juno and the non crazy girl in Inception) stars in a game that delves into what happens after you die. Experience the life of a young woman who has a strong connection with an invisible entity. Expect an emotional and deep gaming experience.

Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft for Xbox, PS3 and PC)

You’ve scaled the tallest tower in Jerusalem. You’ve swam the canals of Venice. You’ve flew over Rome. You’ve been trapped in your own mind. Now it’s time to journey to revolutionary America and reshape history one assassination at a time. You play Connor, warrior son of a Native American mother and British father. The focus of the series moves away from dense cityscapes to more natural surroundings. Instead of leaping from tall buildings you navigate your way through treetops.  Ubisoft has constantly reassured us British gamers that Connor’s war is with the Templars but all the trailers see him kicking the crap out of Redcoats.

The most exciting thing to come out about Assassin’s Creed III is the introduction of naval warfare. Connor gets to pilot vessels, fire cannons and board enemy ships. It looks like an exciting addition to the trilogy.

ZombiU (Ubisoft for the WiiU)

The survival horror genre generally doesn’t excite me. Once you’ve survived on zombie apocalypse you’ve survived them all. The game doesn’t interest me. The fact I find interesting is that Ubisoft are making mature exclusive titles for the WiiU.  Nintendo has never really taken advantage of mainstream 3rd party content but this marks a shift to appeal to the hardcore gamer. It’s going to be interesting to see how the WiiU Gamepad works with this title.

The Last of Us (Naughty Dog for PS3)

Did someone mention a zombie apocalypse? This time it’s a plant apocalypse! Joel and Ellie are doing whatever they need to do to survive. The Last of Us is a survival/action game that takes place in a world destroyed by a plant plague. From the creators of Uncharted, expect this story driven game to have massive set pieces and brutal action. I’m excited about how Ellie and Joel work together, in gameplay footage you see Ellie hurling a brick at an attacking enemy when Joel runs out of ammunition. Watch the gameplay below.

Halo 4 (343 Industries for Xbox 360)

Halo 4 is the first of a new trilogy in the series. The protagonist of the first games, Master Chief, returns as the Halo series gets a well needed reboot. Multiplayer steps away from the traditional and adopts kill streaks much like Call of Duty. Expect hardcore Halo fans to get annoyed. Expect the rest of us love the change.

What have I forgotten from the first few days of E3? Any suggestions?
